Did you ever think about the fact that color has meaning? And that the meaning comes to us through our families, through our culture, and through our own experiences? No color means the same thing to everyone, but anyone involved in packaging label design knows that color has meaning and those meanings change from culture to culture, as well as from individual to individual. In truth, color has its own psychology.
The label on a bottle can make a huge difference in how people perceive the taste. There’s a reason why companies like Coca-Cola and Budweiser spend millions of dollars on design and perception testing before they release a new label. As important as the beverage itself is, the label can be just as important for the success of a drink product.
With the familiar humidity beginning to sweep through the streets, we can safely say it’s going to be another scorching summer. But what better way to diffuse the suffocating heat, than to head face first into some ice-cold delectable ice cream? However, how do you choose your favorite? Product packaging design is all too often ignored in the commercial world, which means that when a product is packaged creatively & beautifully, it really stands out. As products sitting on store shelves cry out for attention, it’s the product packaging that can mean the difference between what gets bought and what gets left behind. And creative, interesting & thoughtfully designed packaging can also make the actual product seem better – you only have to look at the unboxing videos of Apple’s MacBooks and iPhones on YouTube to see that buying a beautifully packaged product can be more like an event than just a simple, everyday purchase.
Industrial Design, by definition, is the creation and development of concepts and specifications aimed at optimizing the functions, value, and appearance of products, structures, and systems for the benefit of both user and manufacturer.
As industrial designers push the envelope to create and improve on existing products such as bicycles or furniture, we as consumers appreciate the benefits from these advancements. In the month of December I wrote a post titled: 60+ Amazing Snowboard Designs. I started snowboarding as a youngster and have become pretty good at it since. One of the things I never really mastered was skateboarding. While all my friends were playing and riding around with their skateboards, I was on my bike.
